The disastrous health and economic effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic hits hardest in underserved communities where “essential workers” are plenty but wages are low. In areas such as these, health insurance is often limited even as workers are asked to serve longer hours in jobs that put them at risk.
We’ve seen conveniences we all enjoy like restaurants and shops close their doors but this has also closed the doors on the livelihoods of many. Those that have lost jobs in the retail and service sectors are struggling to pay bills and keep food on the table.
As we move through these troubled times, South Miami Rotary is forming strategic partnerships and activities in response to the instability affecting our community.
“Locals Feeding Locals” is a new initiative in partnership with Branches South Miami that addresses hunger relief and invests in South Miami food truck entrepreneurs. Each Tuesday, South Miami Rotary works with Miami Island Grill and Dukes and Dingle Food Truck to distribute 150 hot meals, free of charge. Community Activist, Kim Davis, is with us each week acting as consultant and volunteer coordinator.
Your donations to Locals Feeding Locals are tax-deductible. 100% of monies given go directly to this special effort to address Hunger Relief due to Covid-19 and support our hard working neighborhood food truck heroes.
Thank you for your interest and generosity!
