·         New polo shirts are in stock. If you didn’t place an order but would like buy one, contact Doreen.

·         The Coral Gables Club is having a gala on March 4th to celebrate their 60th anniversary

·         Ellen Book thanked John Sorgie for the bookmarks that are going out to promote the Art Festival and provided an update on the dictionary and atlas give-aways.

·     We are looking for exhibitors for the Children's Alley, so please contact Doreen if you are aware of a non-profit that can provide an interactive experience for children

·     Ellen Book thanked the members who helped with the Rotary and Atlas give-aways. We are partners with Rotary of Dadeland and will be at Miami Norland Middle School and Palmetto Elementary School on February 10th.

·     Linda Kaplan gave an update and had good news about our grants! Every year, we apply and receive two grants from the count. We had applied for the tourist development grant and were recommended to receive $3,000.00, but Linda received the award documents back and they gave us $5,000.00! We have $9,400.00 in county grants this year. The grants are used to finance public relations for the Art Festival, so we can do more advertising to promote the event.

DID YOU MISS A MEETING ‘BECAUSE YOU WERE AWAY?

http://ourlead.net/boltonleverrotary/images/Banner.jpg

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or after, of the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.org to find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

For make-ups anywhere around the world when traveling internationally: http://rotary.org/support/clubs/index.html

Our Speaker Today: Tom Knight

Sony Ericsson Open

Tom Knight is the Director of Corporate Sales and Competition Services for the Sony Ericsson open, and has been with the organization for 26 years for the now multi-million dollar event on Key Biscayne. With just 6 weeks to go, the event will be running from March 21st – April 3rd, and now offers over $9MM in prize money (started out at $1.5M).The founders of the tournament had the idea of creating a men’s and women’s tennis event that would add two weeks to the tennis calendar, and in 1985, this was accomplished (then known as the Lipton under Lipton sponsorship). This tournament has vaulted into 5th place for the largest tennis tournament in the world, and has been responsible for new developments in tennis such as the Hawkeye scoring that was first tried at this event. The event will be televised this year on ESPN and the finals will be on CBS.

This tournament was the first to combine entertainment with tennis, and is considered to be the first “glam” of tennis, with global attention in 200 countries. The tournament has survived storms, Hurricane Andrew, and cancellations of two finals matches.

Sony Ericsson will still be the top sponsor this year, joined by FedEx, BMW and Corona Beer. Areas of the site have been redesigned this year. This tournament is known for catering to the players, providing food, housing, cars and practice courts and also caters to the media. About half of the suites are for players and media.

For more information on this event, visit www.sonyericssonopen.com.
