  • Jeremy Neal gave us an update on his status as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student. He has been accepted and will be going to Germany and he is very happy! He attended the outbound Rotary meeting, met other Youth Exchange students, and is waiting to find out where he will be going in Germany. Meanwhile, he is writing a 12 page research paper, writing a letter in German for his host family, and studying the language. Currently, Jeremy attends the New World School of the Arts, is studying percussion, and has been accepted to Stetson, University of North Florida, and is waiting to hear from FSU.
  • Polo shirts are available and special orders for different styles and colors can be placed. Contact Doreen for more information.
  • Ellen Book reported that the last 2 give-aways are taking place, and thanked Bob Straile for coordinating them.
  • Regarding the Art Festival, sponsorships are up and grants have been increased this year, but you can also make a donation as a Friend of the Art Festival – contact Joanna Baruch if you want to make a donation
  • Help is needed for the Art Festival. Britt, Wendy or Raquel may ask you to do a job – please try to comply. Raquel will be in charge of volunteers.
  • John Sorgie still needs 3 more volunteers for Thursday morning, 4:30 AM, to paint the streets

http://ourlead.net/boltonleverrotary/images/Banner.jpg

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or after, of the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.orgto find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to
http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

Our Speaker Today: Subrata Basu

Upcoming assignment to the Peace Corps

Subrata recently left Miami-Dade County service, and in keeping with Rotary spirit, has volunteered for the Peace Corps. He will be going to Belize for his assignment. Subrata said that people give mixed reactions when they hear his decision, and after a “light” list of reasons why he is making this choice, he explained that his primary reason to make this transition from employed to fixed income status is to do public service, learn other cultures, and help in any way he can. Subrata sees it as an honor to serve.

This was a difficult decision to leave his comfort zone and go to a new place. He will be working with small business development. Subrata reminded us of the Mission of the Peace Corps:

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps to promote world peace and friendship.

The Peace Corps' mission has three simple goals:

1.    Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.

2.    Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.

3.    Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

Every volunteer must consider this role to be a 24/7 job. Beyond the area of primary responsibility, a Peace Corps volunteer will become involved in the community with secondary projects and live as a local.

Belize is the youngest country in Central and South America. Businesses will promote agriculture and eco-tourism.  A lot of produce is grown in Belize and the area is known for sugar cane, citrus, bananas and fishing.
