  • Doreen thanked everyone who attended the Kings Pins Challenge
  • Everyone should have received the District email on how to contribute to Japan Disaster Relief. Contact Doreen if you have any questions.
  • Ambassadorial canddiate Monica Ruiz was interviewed by our panel, was accepted and is on her way to the District for an interview
  • John Sorgie and Joanna Baruch both celebrate birthdays on March 27
  • Diana Phillips is still in the hospital, would love to have cards sent to her home or South Miami Hospital
  • Raquel Hickey's surgery went well and she is on the road to recovery
  • March is Rotary Literacy Month. Our Literacy Project began in 2007-2008 year, by giving dictionaries to all South Miami third-graders. Ellen Book and Linda Kaplan began by distributing 500 books, the program has now expanded throughout the county to include dictionaries and atlases for third and fifth grade students, and a total of 3600 will be given out by the end of this year.
  • Linda Kaplan spoke to us about her Classification. Linda practices Immigration Law, but a special aspect, as she focuses on business immigration. Linda earned her BA in Economics, was in banking for three years, went to graduate school in Finance, but quit and went to Law School. She completed her J.D. at the University of Florida, then went to NYU for a degree in Tax Law. Linda was working for a group of tax attorneys, and they selected her to learn immigraton law to help foreign investors. Her typical client is a multinational corporation, based in the US or another country, where there is a need to bring people here (managers with specialized knowledge), creating jobs in our community.
  • Many thanks to First National Bank of South Miami for helping us with the Art Festival.

DID YOU MISS A MEETING ‘BECAUSE YOU WERE AWAY?

http://ourlead.net/boltonleverrotary/images/Banner.jpg

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or
after,of the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.orgto find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an
alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects,
post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to
http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

Our Speaker Today:

Gary Sisler, Organ Donation and University of Miami Tissue Bank

Gary Sisler is a member of the Rotary Club of Miami, and the Miami Club works closely with the healthcare community. The University of Miami Tissue Bank is one of the oldest academic institutions of its kind. The Rotary Club of Miami and the University of Miami Tissue Bank have been teaming up since 1980 to provide the world with the highest quality, safest grafts in the world. Through a grant from the Rotary Club of Miami's fundraising, they were able to donate a Sterile Recovery Suite. The Tissue Bank has been able to help over 1,000,000 patients around the world.

Organ donation is just as important as tissue donation. Every day, 17 people die while waiting for an organ. A fellow Rotarian, Garth Parker, shared his story with us and how is alive today, thanks to receiving a liver transplant.

They emphasized the importance of signing the donation card, carrying it with you and having it on your driver's license, and letting your family know that you want to be an organ donor. You can register your wishes online at www.donatelifeflorida.org. For more information about the University of Miami Tissue Bank, visit www.umiamitb.org.
