Ed Mattson is the Board Chair of New Rotary Cancer Survivors Group (at the behest of Past International President, Frank Devlyn), and Ambassador at Large for Hands Across the Sea Program (formerly Rotary's World Community Services Resource Network, headed by PDG 5240, Jim Johanssen).Mr. Mattson is a member of the Mishawaka, IN Rotary Club, and a member of the Rotary Speaker's Bureau in numerous districts. He is also listed with American Cancer Society, and has addressed many cancer groups. Mr Mattson is Ambassador at Large for "Hands Across the Sea Project" (formerly Rotary's World Community Service Resource Network Program) headed by PDG 5240, Jim Johannsen. Mr. Mattson is also Board Chair for the new Rotary Cancer Survivors and Support Group.

He has addressed more than 2000 clubs in 41 states and 5 foreign countries over the last six years on a variety of subjects from cancer research to Rotary International Projects.

He met his wife at the Pediatric Center in Chisinau, Moldova and were married as the evening program at the Glen Burnie, MD Rotary Club, in what has become known as "The First Drive-By Rotary Wedding", while traveling thru Maryland on the way to speak at District 7680 District Coference last April.

Mr. Mattson is a retired businessman who has devoted his life to raising funds to combat cancer everywhere. He comes to RCSM on a one month speaking tour in Florida. He will be keynote speaker at District 5240 District Conference in Santa Barbara, CA in October. He is extremely dynamic and driven and is on the road constantly with his wife promoting Rotary.

His first wife, Linda, battled various forms of cancer for many years before succumbing to pancreatic cancer. Ed met his second wife while traveling in Russia to help doctors create better medical facilities in the Ukraine. His foundation provides financial support to help children everywhere in their struggles against cancer.

As a medical shipment specialist, he arranges transport of medical supplies through a network of professionals throughout the world. He is thus able to cut through the red tape and bureaucracy so prevalent in many countries.

Mr. Mattson is a published author. His newest book titled, Say NO to the Undertaker...Winning Your Battle with Cancer, is available on-line at www.lindamattsoncancerfoundation.org; amazon.com;forbesbookclub.com, booksamillion.com, buy.com, barnesandnoble.com, allbookstores.com. Proceeds benefit Rotary International's Cancer Survivor and Support Group.

All proceeds from the $50 cost go to the foundation. The book includes a 10-step plan to win against cancer, complementary treatment programs, new treatment options, referrals to specialized treatment options and support groups and easy-to-understand language. He said the glossary alone is worth the cost of the book.

His description of cord blood, for example, makes it a key cancer fighter and very effective against diseases such as aplastic anemia

A collection of cute Teddy Bears were displayed and are available for sale. Please see www.ricancersurvivors.org or call 630-440-7912 for more information. Their purchase from his non-profit organization makes them tax deductable.

Mr. Mattson brings a great deal of energy to this important topic and is the perfect example of a wonderfully dedicated Rotarian.
