Visit www.ri6990.org to find a club to make up an absence.
Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.
To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.
How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?
Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.
Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to
http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf
It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

Our Speaker Today:
Dr. Paul Lazarus
Dr. Lazarus holds a J.D. from Yale University Law School and serves as Program Director for the University of Miami's Motion Pictures and Video-Film Programs. His professional background includes production head for Home Box Office, Marble Arch, ABC Pictures, and Palomar Pictures as well as film commissioner for the state of New Mexico. He has produced six major motion pictures and 68 award-winning educational films. He is the author of two books and several screenplays, as well as articles in professional journals.
While his original topic for our meeting was to be "Why are today's movies so bad?", Dr. Lazarus changed his focus as there were some terrific moves at the end of last year. He mentioned The King's Speech, Winter's Bone, True Grit, The Fighter, Social Network, The Black Swan, Alice in Wonderland and others. Dr. Lazarus shared some of his thoughts on what he would change in Hollywood if he could wave a magic wand.
1. He would like to see the prices adjusted, so a movie could charge more the first week, and they would charge less for art films
2. The Academy changed the nominations for best picture from 5 to 10 films, and he feels that going back to 5 nominees is better categorization (10 does more to get people to the movies and jumps the box office gross)
3. He would endeavor to fix the Academy Awards show, as it is boring.
Dr. Lazarus recoginizes that the audience that grew up on films is now maturing, people are approaching retirement and it is difficult to get mature films. Movies are not just making money in America, 60% of the theatrical business is from outside the U.S. and Canada. We will see changes in Hollywood, as moves are a business, not an art form. The aspiration is to make good movies but also in the context of making money. Studios will make films that they know how to market.
