PANSY:

On April 7th, our Club celebrates its 60th year!

http://c.universalscraps.com/files/en/happy.anniversary/anniversary_026.gif

On Tuesday April 13th, we will take some time during our meeting to celebrate our 60th Anniversary.....so please plan on being there.

We do have a speaker lined up for the day and do not want to cut into his time. I am asking you therefore, to arrive at Carrabbas by noon so we can start early and give ourselves some extra time to celebrate. This will be a great day for picture taking, so please bring your cameras, bring a friend and call up a member who had been absent for a while and encourage them to be there.
I am especially asking all Past Presidents to be present.

I will be in Washington DC next week, returning on the 12th.

For those who celebrate Easter.....enjoy.

Love & appreciate,
Pansy

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT:

At the April board meeting, the Rotary Foundation of South Miami, Inc. decided to fund $150.00 towards the South Miami garden Club’s South Miami K-8 garden project.

And in response, this email was sent from the coordinator of this fledgling garden project. :

school

The new garden will be situated on the left side of this walkway.

Thank you so much for the dirt funding. We have a number of estimates for dirt, however I have not decided on what vendor to use as of yet. We are hopeful that 2 full loads will be more than enough. Most of the quotes that I have received are about $140-$180. We will start with one load and get it moved into the gardens, hopefully this coming weekend. (This will entirely depend on weather and football players from South Miami Senior High School. They are moving the dirt for community service hours. Yeah team.)

Please convey my sincere appreciation to the Rotary for your help in bringing this amazing project together. I am very hopeful that there will be a spread in the Miami Herald about the garden when we get the planting day set. I am both nervous and so excited to see this come together. I cannot wait. The kids are very excited about it also. As of this past weekend we have the deck walkway completed. It is wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. I felt that this was very important with having more and more children at the school in wheelchairs. We want everyone to be able to traverse our beautiful "Bird and Butterfly Garden". I am sure that everyone will be very proud of their efforts when this project is planted.

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you. The out pouring of support is just amazing. I knew my town had it together. After all it only "takes a village".

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of John Knox Village for having six members registered/paid for the Club Leadership Forum aka District Assembly.  They must know a good thing when they see it.  For instance, we bet they know that April 17, 2010 at the Stately Signature Gardens will be filled with Fun, Fellowship, Networking, and a chance to learn about new Rotary Humanitarian Service Projects.  They are also probably aware that there will opportunities to share best practices on solving various challenges that face Rotary Clubs today as well as how to enhance the Rotary brand while strengthening their Club at the same time.

So why don’t you take a minute and go to click here and register yourself.  You can join these lively folks in what is shaping up to be a fabulous time that includes not only the above but also the world renown District 6990 House of Friendship/Vendor Expo plus the star-studded Awards Luncheon.

To those of you who have already registered we appreciate your indulgence.

Best regards to all.

University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame

http://umsportshalloffame.com/

Routh1985reunion

Nestled on the Coral Gables Campus of the University of Miami, is the UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI SPORTS HALL OF FAME. The SPORTS HALL OF FAME is the University of Miami's way of recognizing those who have contributed the most to Hurricane Athletics over the years.

It places on record forever the names and achievements of the men and women who have brought National and International acclaim to their University through athletics and who, after graduation, have gone on to bring further credit to their school, their communities and themselves by the manner in which they have assumed their responsibilities as citizens.

The showcase for the Hall of Fame and repository of the great sports traditions of the University of Miami is the Tom Kearns Sports Hall of Fame Building, next door to the Hecht Athletic Center, 5821 San Amaro Drive, Coral Gables, Florida 33146.Photos of each of the inductees, the National Championship Trophies for UM Football and Baseball are displayed there, along with the Heisman Trophies of Vinny Testaverde and Gino Torretta. http://umsportshalloffame.com/images/hp1.jpg

A basketball and memorabilia from the Rick Barry years are on display, along with memorabilia from all sports. The Hall is the repository for all of the great traditions of the University of Miami. On display is the Seminole War Canoe which was for many years the prize for the winner of the University of Miami vs. Florida Football games. The Trophies for all of the University's Bowl Appearances are on display from the Palm Bowl (The first and original Orange Bowl) through this years bowl game. The unusual is also on display, including a picture of the University's first collegiate national championship team, the 1948 National Collegiate Polo Championship Team.

The Sports Hall of Fame, although affiliated with the University of Miami, is an independent Non-Profit Organization surviving on contributions and fund raising events such as it's Annual Golf Classic. The Golf Tournament is held each year at one of our fine South Florida golf courses.

Adjacent to the Hecht Athletic Center at 5821 San Amaro Drive on the Coral Gables Campus. See UM memorabilia from 80 years of University of Miami athletic history when visiting the hall.
