This is how it looks to clubs in Norway – I think KLUBB means Club and Distriktet means District

As past RI President Bhichai Rattakul stated, "It is through these individual efforts that we have the combined strength to change lives."

News from last Saturday’s District Assembly

In attendance:

Linda, Mike, Maxene, Ed, & Daniel, our ambassadorial scholar

RCSM is known as being very active, caring and busy

The names of several RCSM members came up repeatedly at the Assembly. Ed Fischer’s name came up quite often especially with his 21 years of perfect attendance and district committee work. CHEERS TO ED!

And the winner is…

Hey! Someone is reading this thing!!! J

The District Conference is in the fall. The District Assembly is held in Spring. The Assembly lasts for 2/3’s of a day with updates on various Rotary projects and developments. The assembly offers new ideas for great things to do.

UM Rotaract Club Medishare Project presented RCSM with a certificate of appreciation as our original pledge was $1,000 and then doubled to $2,000.

The Haitian nutrition project one month ago was short $15,000. They are now very close to their total goal. At the Assembly a donor cut their shortfall in half.

From DG Jack Martin’s Blog:

"The funds will be used to support Project Medishare in Haiti, and that organization’s Akamel nutrition project in particular.

Project Medishare, founded in 1992, conducts a variety of projects across the central plateau of Haiti. While broad in scope, the various projects have a core goal: the improvement of health conditions among the most vulnerable of the region’s population such as women, children, the elderly and malnourished.

The Akamil nutrition project is a sustainable hunger alleviation undertaking. Small factories are being constructed to house machines that will produce and bag quantities of AK-1000, or Akamil, for public distribution. The Akamil is a highly nutritious powder mix consisting of two parts cereal (rice, corn, millet, wheat) and one part beans.

While there might be more appetizing meals readily available to the rest of the western world, in Haiti there is virtually nothing. Deforested land, barren and otherwise unable to support crop production this is a crisis of major proportions. The Rotaract club members have been to Haiti and have seen this firsthand. "

Thank you members for supporting this project. What effects our neighbors in Haiti eventually effects Florida.

Diana Phillips
Looking Ahead to 2008’s Art Festival

The 2007 festival was a success but with that knowledge and institutional memory we can now do it better!!

Diana has accumulated four pages of step-by-step notes over the years from committee meetings. Below are a few of the details big and little:

Registration packets for HQ have all of the info stipulations by Ltn. Ross and SM Police regulations for booths, name badges, survey cards, assembly line of info needed to be included in envelopes in the box

The storage unit is located at A+ Mini Storage across from the Big Cheese. Stuff inside: shopping carts to transport ice from coke booths signs, water bowls for dogs, magic markers, table clothes, misc. items

Sponsor Packets – in process of being composed level of sponsorship – with pictures of previous years

Press coverage – needs improvement – we had little coverage from Channel 6 We need to expand our coverage conscious that the profit needs to go to charity.

Artists – throughout the year Roshanda receives and handles querries that are emailed questions about booths, local hotels, general about the area

Registration table at HQ require lists of artist by booth and by name – registration packets, lists of contacts if something goes wrong Set up of coffee and donuts, listing of volunteers assignments, a call list for how to reach no shows

Handbills – rack and window posters timely printing. Chris Marsh, great guy, went store to store distributing.

City of SM Budget request – July we make a formal request for funding at a Tuesday night meeting. Last year our funding was cut and the Policy and Public Works bill doubled.

Banners – AAA Banners – yearly we need to apply for city permits – to hang them all over the county – We also write a formal request to other cities.

We now have 50 pole banners – used to have 28. For 2007, we had them hanging on Kendall Drive and Bayshore Drive

We advertise in Sunshine Artist and Where the ArtShows Are?
Let Diana know if you find any other website and magazines that appeal to artists – we may advertise in new media to get them interested in our show.

When Diana said We’ll need a printer at HQ – Felipe said "I’ll get you one" – such a good Rotarian!!

Street Marking – 6 people will be needed @ 4:30am with police measure booth sizes in 1 ½ hours start at Red Road and go westbound.

Dog watering and tool bucket – storage room bowls for pooches – family friendly

Williamson’s booth placement and car placement – tents booth and tender loving care

From just these few points, you can tell how much work went into this –

Diana and Roshunda, her able right-hand lady, put so much effort into our primary fundraiser.

While Roshunda was hired to help with the administrative work, she’s gone above and beyond including designing banners and pictures.

WE ARE ALL TRULY LUCKY TO HAVE BOTH WOMEN DRIVING THIS PROJECT TOWARD CONTINUED SUCCESS.
