  • Our Installation Dinner will be on June 18th at the Elks Club, live music, great food - please reserve the date on your calendar!
  • Michael Mills reminded us that orders for our fundraiser are due on May 24th. Everyone should have a demonstrator model and sales envelope. Price breaks are available for large quantity orders. For an order of 25 or more, the price drops to $16.00, for 50 or more, the price drops to $14.00, but Rotary will maintain the same profit level. Contact Mike if you have any questions. Make checks payable to Rotary Foundation of South Miami.
  • Charles Ruiz de Castilla gave an interesting Craft Talk at our last meeting. He talked to us about his current project, working with Starz Entertainment on a series that is being produced in Miami. There are 4 or 5 productions that will be filmed in Miami by the end of October, including a Tom Cruise movie, Charlie's Angels and Burn Notice. These productions have a trememdous economic impact on our community, adding jobs and bringing people in to hotels, restaurants and increased use of services.
  • No winner yet in the 50/50 raffle! The grand prize was at $280.00 this week - come out and buy your tickets!

DID YOU MISS A MEETING ‘BECAUSE YOU WERE AWAY?

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or
after, the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.org to find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to
http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

Our Speaker Today:

Sebastian Rasfeld, Rotary Youth Exchange Student

Sebastian has been our Rotary Youth Exchange Student this year. He is from Cologne, Germany, and spoke to our club regarding his experiences. Before this experience, Sebastian didn't know anything about different cultures. He has now been in school where there are many African Americans and Hispanics, and he has been able to meet people of varying backgrounds. Sebastian has been able to travel in the U.S., enjoying skiing in Utah with his host family, Sea Camp in the Florida Keys, participating in the Youth Exchange trip to Hawaii, as well as visiting Washington, D.C., New York and the Bahamas.

He feels that he has grown a lot this year and this program is one of the best things that could have happened to him. Sebastian, met new people, has given presentations like the one at this meeting, and got to know the people from around the world who also participated in the program. One of his remarks was that in Germany, there doesn't seem to be as much of a national feeling. Sebastian plans to be a Rotarian in the future, and thinks that the Exchange Program plants the seed for future members.
