President Pansy reminded the membership of the upcoming installation banquet at Signature Gardens and that it is free to members and only $30 for guests. She also encouraged the members to bring more than one guest so as to share Rotary with non-Rotarians, so they can learn what a great group we are both locally and internationally. President Pansy also reminded the members that next week District Governor Lee Phares will be here to present the Club with its Presidential Citation and that everyone should be present. President Pansy also reported that the Club was $830 shy of its commitment of $150.00/member for the Paul Harris Foundation. Then put forth a check of $100 towards the Club’s goal; as did Karen; Darrell Downs; as did Fabio Fernandez, and John Sorgie. Linda Kaplan donated $50; as did Britt; David Jacobs; and Wendy Lapidus.

President Pansy then announced that Joan Harris would be the new Bulletin Editor starting July 1st and that the June Board Meeting would be on June 28th at the First National Bank of South Miami and that members of the old board as well as the incoming board were required to attend.

Fabio Fernandez passed out a flyer showing which members had purchased the remaining cases of water and soda leftover from the February Art Festival. He then thanked the members who purchased them an announced that he only had one case of water and one case of Sprite left over. When no one responded, he offered the case of Sprite for $1.00. Ed Fischer gave him the dollar and will pick up the case at next week’s meeting.

DID YOU MISS A MEETING ‘BECAUSE YOU WERE AWAY?

http://ourlead.net/boltonleverrotary/images/Banner.jpg

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or after, of the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.org to find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

Our Speaker Today:

Henry Gilbert, Hooked on Driving

Henry, a Vietnam Veteran (tank commander), has a very extensive professional motorsports background. Owner of the Sports Car Driving Experience, an SCCA approved racing school, Henry felt that adding performance driving events to his existing business made sense – and that Hooked On Driving was the organization he wanted to do it with.

Henry’s background is very impressive:

  • T1 National Champion (Corvette) – Southeast Division – 2002
  • Grand-Am Cup driver
  • Speed World Challenge GT class driver
  • Stunt driver for many movies, including serving as cast driving instructor for Fast and Furious II
  • Professional Driving Instructor for:
  • Skip Barber, Brands Hatch Racing School, Justin Bell Driving School

He heads up a Home Health Care Agency that provides in-home assistance the elderly and infirm. Henry is also a sports car driver who drives at high speeds on many TV shows and operates a driving school for anyone who wants to learn how to avoid high speed accidents.

Hooked On Driving is a leading provider of performance driving programs, commonly known as an high performance driving experience (HPDE), or high performance driving school (HPDS). These programs are run on Track Days, at regional tracks such as Thunderhill Raceway, Laguna Seca, Reno-Fernley, Pocono, Autobahn Country club, and many others. They give drivers of high performance cars and sports cars the opportunity to drive their cars on a race track. During the first sessions a coach will ride in the passenger seat, and teach the driver high performance driving techniques. All new drivers need to participate is a helmet (available rentals), and an inspection to be sure their car is roadworthy. Beginners are given a thorough briefing and are introduced to their coach before they drive their car on the track. The initial "A Group" for beginning HPDE drivers, teaches smoothness, awareness, and driving a proper, safe and efficient line on track. A priority is also placed on learning basic car control skills such as late braking, proper shifting and understanding the concept of the apex of a turn. While A group has significant passing restrictions to maintain a conservative pace, the B - Intermediate, C - Advanced, and D - Race-prepped groups have progressively more flexible passing rules and advanced level coaching. There is NEVER any competition – wheel to wheel or timed laps – in our programs. Hooked on Driving HPDE Programs are safe experiences for all, an enjoyable time for every driver – and to assure that our drivers come away with much more confidence in handling their car in an emergency situation. Hooked On Driving customers frequently are heard saying that they’ve had, "The time of their lives!".
