WHAT IS DISASTER RECOVERY AS ADMINISTERED BY THE ROTARY FOUNDATION?

Disaster Recovery  – Allows Rotarians to donate money in response to specific disasters. Funds are distributed to local committees to support recovery efforts. The program was created in 2005-06, and the Foundation currently administers five Disaster Recovery accounts: Hurricanes Stan and Wilma (Guatemala and Mexico), Hurricane Wilma (United States), the Earthquake in India and Pakistan, and Solidarity in South Asia. Total contributions to the accounts were $6.4 million last Rotary year. This year, the most recent example, is the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, #296 within our own Zone-34.  For additional information about this fund visit the RI site at: http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/haiti_earthquake_relief_daf_en.pdf

Remember, contributions to TRF DAF accounts are not eligible for Paul Harris or Major Donor recognition.

Our Rotary District 6990 also has the Robbins Fund, which was established after Hurricane Andrew. Our Hurricane season started on June 1st 2010 and we have been advised to expect a very active season!

DID YOU MISS A MEETING ‘BECAUSE YOU WERE AWAY?

http://ourlead.net/boltonleverrotary/images/Banner.jpg

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or after, of the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.org to find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

For make-ups anywhere around the world when traveling internationally: http://rotary.org/support/clubs/index.html

Our Speaker Today:

Irina Patterson, Volunteer Ambassador, Global Initiative 1M1M

Irina Patterson was a Medical Doctor and tech PR executive in the past. Irina’s current passion is entrepreneurship. She is an ambassador for the Global Initiative, 1M1M. Launched out of Silicon Valley by Sramana Mitra, entrepreneur, strategist and Forbes columnist, this initiative offers free online guidance to serious entrepreneurs who are working to reach their first $1 Million in revenue. Irina is based in Miami and focuses her entrepreneurship efforts on South Florida and Russia, the country she grew up in. Irina is also in charge of seed financing research and development within 1M1M, so she often dives into the world of Angel Investing and records her conversations with Angels on http://sramanamitra.comm. Irina records her personal 1M1M on her blog.

1M1M, a global initiative, was launched in Silicon Valley, with the goal to create 1 million entrepreneurs with their first 1 million in revenue. In South Florida, she hopes to create 5 or 10. Ms. Patterson remarked that the failure rate for entrepreneurs is staggering, because most people don’t want to listen to the experts. With 1M1M, everything is done online.

This program is run by volunteers, and the key element of the program is the strategy roundtables. Every Thursday at 11:00 AM Eastern time, entrepreneurs are able to present their business presentation pitch, and receive immediate feedback on their business strategies. It is shown that 25% of entrepreneurs don’t validate their product or service, don’t research their customer wants, and 25% immediately want to raise money. Ms. Patterson noted that it is possible to build a 1M business without any funding. She went on to discuss that one may be self-employed (doing all or most of the work themselves), and that a business would be an endeavor that can be sustained without the individual who began the business.

She invites serious entrepreneurs from anywhere (think Florida) to present their businesses at weekly 1M1M online strategy roundtables: http://www.sramanamitra.com/entrepreneurship-strategy-roundtables where Sramana Mitra, a veteran Silicon Valley strategist (her mentor and role model who created 1M1M) listens .and gives her feedback to each entrepreneur individually in a space of 15 minutes or so.
