That’s the amount of children who die from preventable diseases
everyday. Relate that to your own
children. No one in this room has ever
known a child who has known real thirst or real hunger.
Children die because adults were either too busy, too ignorant, or too lazy to pay attention.
Children die not because no one is there help them but too often because nobody does.
We have the capacity to change the world. Terrorism is eradicated by first stamping out
poverty.
A Paul Harris Fellowship allows ordinary people to do
extraordinary things.
Here’s the magic: By improving their lives we improve our own.
What is your dream?
Dreams and hopes are universal.
Whereever you are living.
The simple things in life.
Playing outside.
Having enough food.
Martin Luther King once referred to the “fierce urgency of NOW. “
It is just as applicable to these times as much as it during the time he said it.
Rotary gives hope and reassurance to the world
Our focus is three-pronged:
- Networking
- Fellowship
- Service
Membership chairs – for the entire district will:

out.
October – local Chamber plan a networking session.

If all 48 clubs
do the same events at the same time we’ll create momentum, we’ll create buzz,
we’ll get publicity, we’ll enervate members!!!
A booklet of ALL district members. We need to network our businesses!

Rotary made a promise to the world and we are so very close to
completing this promise. Thanks to
Rotarians 500,000,000 people are leading productive
healthy lives – Polio-free.
The CDC and the World Health Organization are onboard. The WHO has made Polio Eradication #1
operational priority for the WHO. The
clean up is the last 1,000 cases in
the last 4 countries.
There is a challenge grant for Polio. This means we are asked to contribute money.
UPCOMING
EVENTS:
~~~The Rotary Club of Coral Gables is holding a wacky event to
raise money. They have created a ball
drop from a helicopter. It’s $25 ticket to drop balls onto a golf course for
prizes. If every Rotarian bought one ticket we’d raise $50,000 to eradicate Polio.
~~~Leadership Insistute - brainchild of NE Rotarians 3 part
whole day. Well fed. Meet people from across the district. Learning more about the
organization.
August 23
~~~Look out for a Read-a-thon in September to inspire literacy.
GROUP STUDY
EXCHANGE
Marcy was the GSA team-leader in 1998-99 which visited the Philipines. She loved it
so much that in 2008-09 the district is sending a team there again.
If you are interested in being a team leader contact Yoli
Woodridge. Interviews are at the end
of September for the leader and in mid November for team members.
The District is about helping the clubs do the best they can do
We’re there to provide and to train great leadership and to provide
more assistance.
Thank you to the south Miami Rotarians who have stepped up and
taken on district leadership roles:
Ed Fischer – a yeoman’s job for 8 years in the Rotary Moment
Michael Newman, Peter Wendschuh, Doreen Reitnauer, Diana
Phillips and all of those who supported the GSE and so many other numerous
projects.
Bhichai Rattakul– several years
ago a member stated to Past RI President 2002-03 that he wanted to resign as
we don’t do anything and it was meaningless.
Look around at the good works of this South Miami Rotary Club
with its 43 members JUST in 2007-08:
~~Children are benefiting from our scholarships,
~~Bermise orphans
~~Water project in
Haiti
And from all of the clubs combined:
~~2 billion children have
been inoculated from Polio
~~Ugandan orphans who benefit from the Peace Scholar we
educated.
You and I need Rotary – give us the chance to make a difference
and be apart of something much greater.
