DID YOU MISS A MEETING ‘BECAUSE YOU WERE AWAY?

http://ourlead.net/boltonleverrotary/images/Banner.jpg

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or after, of the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.org to find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/eclub_list.pdf

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

For make-ups anywhere around the world when traveling internationally: http://rotary.org/support/clubs/index.html

Our Speaker Today:

Bill Lindsey, Retired Pro Hockey Player, Television Sports Analyst & Radio Broadcaster

Bill played for the Florida Panthers from the team’s inception, from 1993 – 2000, and was part of the Panthers team that made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals in the 1995-96 season.  He also played for the Quebec Nordiques, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, Montreal Canadiens and Atlanta Thrashers during a 14 year NHL career.

He explained that the Florida Panthers’ schedule mirrors the Florida Heat’s schedule, which makes it difficult to get the public’s attention since Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosch are playing for Miami.

Bill told us that decisions are imperative, will make or break your life and you think you are at the end of the road, but it takes a couple of years to get true perspective on the events that are going on. He has a good work ethic and a passion for the game which helped him make decisions – right or wrong. Making the decision is important even when under threatening conditions. An example for him was being black-balled and branded a “quitter” for wanting the return to the Canadian Junior League from the pro teams.

His team went to the Stanley Cup in 1996. The were not the most talented but believed in hard work, and each one felt responsible not only for their own success but the success of his fellow team members and their family.

Today’s message is applicable to selling Football Mania tickets – if we each pull together and think of the project as looking out for our fellow members, we will be successful. Giving is the true joy in life. The good feelings that are returned to you are ten times greater than what you offer.

SHELTERBOX NEWS: HAITI SIX MONTHS ON

ShelterBox’s response to the Haiti earthquake has been the biggest, longest and most complex in the 10-year history of the international disaster relief charity.

The first ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) was mobilized 12 minutes after the earthquake struck. Now, six months later, 22,192 ShelterBoxes have been delivered in Haiti, enough aid for more than 220,000 people.

“This has been the most challenging disaster we’ve ever had to face. The scale of the destruction was beyond belief,” said ShelterBox founder Tom Henderson.

More than 50 highly trained SRT members, from all walks of life, have now volunteered in Haiti for ShelterBox.

One of the SRT members who spent time in Haiti is Bill Decker, current chair of the ShelterBox USA board of directors and business owner in Philadelphia.

“Huge Difference”

“With the intensive training and on-the-ground experiences we receive as SRT, nothing quite prepares one for the wholesale damage and widespread hardship that is evident at every turn in Haiti,” said Decker.

“The households and businesses in rubble, especially near the epicenter in Leogane, was beyond anything I’ve ever seen. I felt like what I was doing as an individual was only a drop in the bucket, but then I realized that I couldn’t drive past these affected areas without seeing a ShelterBox tent with a family inside and I knew that our teams have made a huge difference.”

ShelterBox is committed to delivering aid to families who are most in need. To this effect, ShelterBox has formed close working relationships with partners such as the International Office for Migration, the French Red Cross, Handicap International, the Jenkins/Penn Haitian Relief Organization and ACTED in order to distribute to the most vulnerable demographics.

Tom Henderson added: “Our staff, volunteers and supporters the world over have worked tirelessly, with dedication, passion and commitment, to deliver emergency shelter and life-saving supplies to thousands of Haitian families. Wherever you look in Port-au-Prince you can see a ShelterBox tent.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the overwhelming generosity of our donors. The earthquake moved people to act, and act they have, in a way we have never witnessed before.

“During the coming months, we’ll be sending another 5,000 ShelterBoxes to Haiti which, will give families the safe, secure shelter they need to start rebuilding their lives.”
