GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE TEAM LEADER

Rotary District 6990 is interviewing for the next Outbound GSE leader who will escort 5 young non-Rotarian professionals to Argentina .  The trip leaves on March 8, 2008 and is for 4-5 weeks of free travel and board.

You have until this Saturday to apply.  Spanish is a plus but not a must.

In October 2007, the inbound team of non-Rotarian professionals from Argentina arrives to tour the district (Broward, Dade, Monroe and the Grand Bahama Island.)

To be  a GSE team member:   you must be 25-40 year old and a non-Rotarians.  The purpose is for each participant to learn about the visiting country and how their occupation compares and contrasts between the US and their home country.

SOUTH MIAMI ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW

FEBRUARY 23 – 24, 2008

Have you asked a local business to be a sponsor?

They make our art show a success!

FOOTBALL MANIA

John Sorgie

·        This substantial fundraiser shows off our salesmanship.

·        Last year we raised $2300 in this simple sell football pool for the whole season RCSM makes $6 profit per book

·        We’ve held this fundraiser for 11 years and have raised $35,000 with this simple sale of 10 booklets per member.

·        It is a $10 donation to Rotary foundation which = .60 cents a week.  Your booklet has the potential of winning $50 for being a high scorer or $10 for having the coupled low score.
If you have 10 friends with $10 – ask for this Rotary Foundation donation that has the prospect of paying back 5X’s the initial investment each week.

·        The Club and Club’s Foundation Budget Committee(s) met last night.  To create the budget, an increase from Football Mania is expected over last year.

·        It is a simple process to sell the book to a friend or relative.  There is no numbers or games to keep track of if you choose not to.  Two different teams are assigned by the number of your book each week.

·        If you hit the two highest point winning teams that week, a check is mailed to you.  If you hit two lowest point loser teams, a check is mailed to you.

Jim & Candy Norton

The Rotary International Presidential Conference

Friday & Saturday, August 24 & 25, 2007

Less than thirty days away,  as the home district, we will be hosting the event at the Westin Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale.  Currently, only thirty-four from our district of 2200 members are registered.  Of the thirty-four, ten are from one club.

Governor Jim has set a goal for our district; that is 3000 members by 2010. By attaining this membership goal, think of the projects your club can do to help our community, its people in our world.

In looking at the registration attendees, the clubs in our district with the most membership concerns are not registered.  We are trying to help you build your membership. Our goal is to assist all clubs.

Visit our web page:  www.rotary6990. org/html/ pc.html to register.

The web page will give you the full details of the Presidential Conference in District 6990, August 24 and 25.  Join us!!

Gloria has been Active in CG Jr. Women’s Club, as well as many other organizations.  She is  energetic and upbeat with a deep interest in helping the community.  She has a long list of accomplishments such as being Executive Director of Jr Orange Bowl Committee and Community Foundation of CG.

Coral Gables Community Foundation was established in September, 1991, by community leaders with the mission of fostering programs and initiatives that enhance the quality of life for people living and working in the City Beautiful.

In a move to both increase public awareness of the Foundation and to grow its endowment base, the Board of Directors hired its first Executive Director, Gloria Burns, on October 1, 1994.

MISSION:  The Foundation has several programs, funds, and initiatives for which it  gives back to the community.

Parknership

One of the most successful initiatives is an outgrowth of a Parks Improvement Fund started as a grassroots effort to make improvements to Jaycee Park. This private/public project Parknershipraises funds to renovate city parks and buy additional green space.  The City of Coral Gables has agreed to match the first  $100,000 raised in this effort with no less than a one for one match.  Thus far, this fund has raised more than $1,000,000,  facilitated the creation of a new park with proceeds from the sale of $400,000 in stock donated  by Robert J. Fewell, started funding renovations for various parks and helped fund the restoration of the fountains on Granada and Coral Way.  The “Parknership” Committee spearheaded a landscaping project at Coral Gables High a portion of which was completed in time to for the school’s 50th birthday celebration, several years ago.

Second Annual Black-Tie Gala
January (TBA), 2008
The Biltmore of Coral Gables

The “Greening of the Gables” Gala will feature a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and a chance to bid on several upscale silent auction items. The Greening of the Gables Committee has also planned several surprises for the sit-down dinner program, along with live music for dancing, and a live auction with fabulous prizes. Plans are already underway for this fabulous event. Please check back for updates on this one-of-a-kind event!
