President Bill called on John Sorgie for an update on Football Mania, the second biggest fundraiser for the club after the Crafts Festival. John Distributed ten books to each member and reminded them that each book is only $10.00 and if sell all the books, the Club will earn $3,000.

Even if you sell a book after the season begins and the book has a game from an earlier week, the winner will still be paid.

Entertainment Books 2009 are HERE!

David Jacobs distributed the Entertainment Books, which offer discounts for restaurants, movie houses, and other entertainment. The books sell for just $30.00 and the club keeps $15.00 per book.

Doreen Reitnauer handed out the invoices for the 2008 – 2009 Rotary year. Kindly submit your dues ASAP.

President Bill then read a letter from the Fisher House Foundation thanking us for the contribution and support for America ’s military and veterans.

The contribution will help build the Fisher House at the Miami Veterans Administration Hospital (VAH). The Miami VAH provides services for veterans from Key West to West Palm Beach and Fisher House provides living quarters to a hospitalized veteran’s family who may be from out of the immediate area.

Program Chair Darrell Downs introduced the immediate past president of the Thai-American Association

Khonya Mollsiai,

Asian Community Activities in South Florida

The Asian Festival is held every year at the Fruit & Spice Park in South Dade. Khanya, a Native of Thailand came to South Florida in 1982 after working for the Royal Thai Consulate and the Thai Trade Center and is one of the founding members and immediate past president of the Asian American Federation of Florida.

The Asian Festival began in 1984 and is hosted by the Miami-Dade Parks & Recreation Department at the Fruit & Spice Park. The park was chosen specifically because the Park has fruit trees native to many countries in Asia. The festival has been such a success that in 1999, because the attendance outgrew the Fruit & Spice Park, it was relocated to Bayfront Park and renamed the Asian Cultural Festival. The festival is always the first weekend in March and recently was recognized by the U.S. government as the best festival in the U.S. featuring Asian culture.  It has been so successful, that it has drawn many Asians to Miami, who have relocated and established businesses here in the Miami area. Last year’s event attracted 10,000 visitors. The event features the food and culture of the exhibitors from Korea , Japan , China , Thailand and the Philippines
