2006 Rotary International District 6990 Conference

DoubleTree Grand Key Resort, the official hotel & site of almost all conference events

Register early! There is MUCH competition for these rooms as there will be power boat races – 110-120 mph speedboats competing two hours after the last Conference meeting is completed

Located on the eastern end of the island, the hotel room block will be released on
October 1st. Reserve now at www.rotary6990.org.

Registration for this year’s district conference is a 2-step process. Participants

  1. register for the event itself, enabling you to attend all meetings and meals.
Conference participants are, of course, free to make hotel reservations at the lodging establishment of your choice. If you wish to stay at the official hotel click on the link below after registering for the event. You must first register for the event and

  2. then make your hotel reservation.
Just booking the event will not reserve a hotel room and just booking the hotel won’t register you for the event.

Carrie Sue Ayer
Storyteller

http://www.flstory.org/

Blending traditional, international and personal tales, Carrie Sue, a bilingual storyteller takes her listeners on a journey into the imagination connecting people, languages, and cultures through her stories that flow effortless between Spanish and English.

An accomplished Chautauqua scholar and Kennedy Center trained Artist-in Education she delights in sharing multicultural folktales and historical portrayals of spirited, strong-minded women. Carrie Sue has worked with the Florida Humanities Council as a historical portrayal artist since 1996. Dedicated to preserving and promoting the Art of Storytelling, she has served on the Executive Board of the FL Storytelling Association and is currently the Florida State Liaison to the National Storytelling Network.

How is it that an Arabic surnamed, Eastern European Jewish girl from Pittsburgh, PA tells multicultural stories in Spanish and English? Perhaps it is because she is a third generation storyteller who came of age in Mexico.

From the time she could sit at the knees of her grandparents, listening to them tell their stories of the Old World or hearing her father recount show business adventures, through her move to Mexico as a teenager, Carrie Sue has been collecting and telling tales.

“it seemed rather incongruous that in a society of super-sophistocated communication, we often suffer from a shortage of listeners.” Erma Bombeck.

Carrie Sue encouraged digging up the buried treasures of our family’s histories. Storytelling allows us to absorb facts and emotionally connect to them. It is useful in business, medicine and all aspects of our daily communications.
