Our Speaker Today:

Edwin Perkins "Florida Marlins Stadium"

Mr. Perkins works for HuntMoss a joint venture that is responsible for the construction of the Marlins Stadium.  Once finished, the stadium will be utilized for baseball only in a sports sense, but can also be used for special events and concerts.  The capacity is 36,000 including standing room in the outfield.  The project is a $515 million dollar project with an additional $25 million in infrastructure improvements to the surrounding neighborhood.

There are 4 parking garages and in addition there will be surface parking available.  There is a lot behind the stadium that will be used (on non-game days) as a community park.  The stadium will be the first retractable roof building to recieve LEED silver certification, and is also air conditioned to maintain a temperature of 75 degrees inside.

The total project spans 33 months with an estimated completion date of April 2012, they are currently 73% complete. 80% of seats have been installed and in the next 2 months they will being constructing the natural grass field.

For more information or to track the construction progress please visit www.huntmossjv.com or call 305-325-0577.
