NEED TO MAKE-UP A MEETING?

Visit www.rotary6990.org

So you missed a meeting, do you know what a great opportunity this can be?

Take the opportunity to make up at another club, meet new and interesting members.

This can be a great opportunity to meet business owners who might be interested in the services that you provide and see how other clubs are growing membership!

For online make-ups:

http://www.rotary.org/newsroom/downloadcenter/pdfs/eclub_list.pdf

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity. This offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club. To earn an attendance credit, Rotarians usually log on to the Web site, read online material on a range of subjects, post comments, and submit a form to the club secretary.

Insurance issues:

  1. All Florida needs to be under the same building code as S. Florida
  2. East of US1 residents are monetarily penalized by insurance companies – with no scientific reason for the tacked on extra cost.
  3. Older homes are charged more as they are considered not up to par with the building code.
  4. Content insurance should not be mandatory and made an optional choice.
  5. State matching grant of up to $5,000 to improve an older home that is assessed lower than $500,000. Free inspection included. Call 800-342-2762 or visit http://www.mysafefloridahome.com/
  6. Categorize homes and grade them on preparation for emergencies.
  7. Implement a one cent tax for storm items
  8. Have the insurance companies put aside a percentage of their assets in a rainy day account.
  9. Mandate the amount of insurance needed for a home – equaling the current amount of the mortgage not the full amount of the original loan
  10. Stop the insurance companies from cherry picking the industry in FL by trying to drop homeowners and commercial insurance while keeping auto insurance.
  11. Allow self insurance for homeowners and condo groups.
  12. Keep insurance companies from writing policies and then flipping them to Citizens.
  13. To bring premiums down, have the state involved in re-insurance. Since companies are now buying re-insurance policies (those that help to cap the extent of each company’s payout in a disaster) overseas, those foreign companies are raising rates astronomically. The state is now appropriating $3-4 billion / year in funding for self-supporting a catastrophy fund.
  14. For long term solution to bringing insurance companies back into FL, the federal government needs to have a federal “cat” fund to cover all insurance companies dealing with disasters nationwide.

Insurance industry lobbyists have been so strong that there have been no major changes in the industry in years. Now, political pressures and the media are making changes that swing back to the consumer’s benefit.

Homestead extension should be portable so that someone wishing to downsize carries their exisiting tax rate with them. Now people are locked into their homes.
Bad for the real estate industry and for homeowners. Died in the senate last year as counties lobbied against this bill – their property taxes will be effected.
