Ambassadorial Scholarships Opportunities for 2010-2011

It’s time again for all clubs to start thinking about candidates for this wonderful opportunity. The process begins two years in advance, so prospective Ambassadorial Scholars will be submitting applications for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Ambassadorial Scholarships are for one academic year only, up to $24,000 maximum, and are available to students who have completed a minimum of two full years at a college or university. The student may pursue graduate or undergraduate study with the scholarship and must be a permanent resident of District 6990 and sponsored by a Rotary Club in District 6990. Successful candidates must speak the language of the country of the proposed study institution and cannot be a Rotarian, or family of a Rotarian.

The number of scholarships awarded annually is determined by the district according to available funds. District 6990 currently sponsors three scholars who recently began their 2008-09 year abroad. Three scholarships were awarded for 2009-10. Following is the timeline for students interested in applying for a 2010-11 Ambassadorial Scholarship:

Programming Chair Darryl Downs introduced:

Darryl’s wife is from a Sicilian family and recently visited her old-world town.  When her father died in Perdonia, Italy the family went back for a mass.  The Siviletto family were stone masons.  There town in Italy provides great food and great wine and Carrabbas makes him reminisce about being there….

Pablo Gonzalez, Owner / Manager

Carrabbas Italian Grill

5829 SW 73 St, South Miami, FL  33143

(305) 661-2426 / http://www.carrabbas.com

Pablo is originally from Argentina and he came stateside 20 years ago and joined Carrabbas 8 years ago.  He currently resided in Boca Raton and loves the job enough to brave the one hour each way drive.

The restaurant has been open nine  months and Pablo is happy with business.  This location has been a long time dream  as Miami Dade County was without a location.

Our Heritage

Carrabba's Italian Grill was founded in Houston by Johnny Carrabba and Damian Mandola in December of 1986. Both Johnny and Damian have extensive restaurant experience and belong to one of Houston's most successful restaurant families. Many of the recipes on our menu are those of Damian's mother Grace and sister Rose. Damian has preserved the Italian authenticity of Carrabba's food by traveling the world in search of unique Italian dishes and by taking numerous trips to his grandparents' native Italy.

Damian Mandola & Johnny Carrabba

After many travels to the Houston area, Carrabba's caught the attention of Aussie-themed Outback Steakhouse, Inc. owners.
A joint venture partnership was formed in January of 1993. Under the joint partnership, 10 locations were opened in Houston and in Florida. In January, 1995, Outback Steakhouse, Inc. acquired the rights to develop Carrabba's nation wide. There are currently over 200 Carrabba's Italian Grill locations.

..............................................................................

Johnny and Damian's high standards of quality and desire to make customers feel as though they are guests in the home of good friends led to the tremendous success of Carrabba's.

..............................................................................

Each restaurant is 80% company – 20% owner Pablo and his staff are committed to hospitality.  You will see the owner mostly everyday in each of the restaurants.

Carrabbas gets involved with the community.  Mike Mills talked him about contributing to the festival .  You’ll see us on television and on the radio.
