DID YOU MISS A MEETING ‘BECAUSE YOU WERE AWAY?

Our club goal is 100% Attendance!

If you miss a meeting, it can be made-up within 2 weeks, before or
after, the missed meeting date.

For online make-ups:

Visit www.ri6990.org to find a club to make up an absence.

Attendance credit for a 30-minute interactive club Web site activity offers an alternative to making up a meeting at another club.

To earn this credit, Rotarians log on to the site, read up on a range of subjects, post comments, & submit a form to the club secretary.

How to do a Make-Up On-Line via Rotary eClub One?

Perfect attendance is now possible for every Rotarian with computer access. Rotary’s eClub One is a full-service online charted Rotary Club. Meetings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What an easy way to make up for a meeting that you have missed! During the last Rotary year, Rotary eClub One welcomed more than 120,000 visitors from 161 countries. Of these, about 800 per week participated in one of eClub One’s meeting programs and applied for make-up credit.

Here’s what you have to do to earn make up credit. Go to
http://www.rotaryeclub34.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=885080&module_id=65508

It is mandatory that you spend at least 30 minutes on the website for qualify for a make-up credit. (Remember Rotarians are guided by the principles of the 4 Way Test).

Our Speaker Today:

Ian McKeown, Sustainability Coordinator, University of Miami

Ian McKeown is the first and current Sustainability Coordinator for The University of Miami. Ian is a University of Miami graduate: holding a B.A Degree in Ecosystem Science and Policy with a second major in Economics, and a Minor in Meteorology. Ian also earned a MS degree within the Industrial Engineering School. During his undergraduate career Ian was heavily involved in environmental student organizations, the honor council, and completed an internship for the Green U program. Ian, as the head of the sustainability program, is currently working on innovative ways to account for and reduce the carbon footprint of the University of Miami through recycling, energy, water, transportation, purchasing, community outreach, and education initiatives. Ian posses a deep-rooted fascination with science, the environment, and human health issues.

Ian spoke to us about some of the ways the Universityof Miami is making a commitment to green initatives, including recyclying across the University, having Goodwill do all of their shredding, solar powered trash compactors, as well as education programs. The University of Miami is also looking at transportaton, including no cars on campus for freshmen, use of shuttle buses and zip cars, and a bike friendly campus. They are also looking at electricity and water projects to monitor water and energy usage. All new construction projects must meet the LEED construction silver level.
