ADG Rick Davis, RC Miami, gives out district awards.

Assistant District Governor for District 6990, Rick Davis visited our club to recognize members who have done wonderful things for this district.

He congratulated President Linda for her leadership and bestowed upon her the Presidential Citation.

1)       RCSM exceeded our goal for foundation giving which is money well contributed.

2)           We had a new member sign on last week and will have a new member next week.  They are the life blood necessary to keep achieving our goals.  This year a club had to have a net gain of 1 member over attrition.

3)          Only 1 out of 3 district clubs get awarded the Presidential Citation

LETTER OF APPEAL

The club voted to send today’s collection of Happy $$ = $133.00 to the Rotary Club of Key West:

Dear Rotary Club President Linda,

On Saturday, June 16 a fire destroyed the home of Steven and Latisia Powell.  Steve is a member of my club, the Rotary Club of Key West, and Latisia is a member of the Rotary Club of Sunset Key West.

They lost everything…their home, their cars, their clothes and possessions.

The Rotary Club of Key West is establishing a fund to assist the Powell family, and I’m reaching out to all District 6990 Rotarians for your help.  Please do whatever you can…happy dollars, club donations, individual donations…anything that helps.

Checks can be sent c/o the Rotary Club of Key West, PO Box 469, Key West FL 33040.

Thanks you for everything you do.

 Joe Albury

President Rotary Club of Key West

Recapping his GSE team’s adventures in the land of Versace, Verdi and Sophia Loren, introducing…

Randy Golden – GSE Outbound Leader

Italian Odyssey

The basic tenant of Rotary is to communicate amongst all peoples from around the world.  This adventure was the greatest experiences of Randy’s13 years in Rotary.  He was Past President of the Rotary Club of Miami but this was his first time working on an international project for Rotary.

He thanked the audience for each of us not having applied as Team Leader.  He took four weeks away from law practice when he recognized it as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The Rotary International Foundation covers airfare and then the host district takes care of all other expenses.  You are treated like family and each club becomes competitive with providing the best food, best sites.

Typical day began at 9am – leave hotel until midnight when you return.  The physical routine was trying.

There are 65 clubs in Lombardia, Italy District 2050 so there were presentations to 3-4 clubs per day.

The presentation’s intro to team members was said in Italian – then the rest was a subtitled presentation

In Italy there are 3 levels of police – local, state, and finance – the DG in Genoa, the day before, said that there was a raid on a Rotary office.

When asked about the Italian Army, the response was “we have the USA.”

They were treated to presentations at the Alfa Romeo factory and were shown the Mile Mila Museum based on the 1000 mile famous race that took place between the 1930’s -50’s museum and the Giorgio Armani collection exhibit in Milan, the Berretta arms museum, and steel yards.

The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program of The Rotary Foundation is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 and in the early years of their professional lives. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits between paired areas in different countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.

For each team member, The Rotary Foundation provides the most economical round-trip air ticket between the home and host countries. Local Rotarians in the host area provide for meals, lodging, and group travel within their district.
